Ending the wait: Ismail Hossain’s Story
Similar to many mothers who gave birth to a baby with a disability in this region of the world, Alahi Noor was stigmatize after the birth of her son, Ismail, who was born with Cleft lips; great sadness filled the house where they lived.
The family went to a local doctor and he informed them to take their son to Dhaka or Chittagong Hospital. But when the doctor told them the approximate cost of the surgery, they realize they could not afford it. What Jamal earn from day laboring is barely enough to feed their son.
One day Ismail’s parents heard about CureCleft from a local social worker. They brought their son to LMRF Children’s Hospital and registered him for surgery. They saw many before-and-after pictures of surgeries, their pain was alleviated and they begun to gain both courage and hope. Ismail’s parents said the hospital was like heaven for them. Ismail’s mother informed the doctors that “Ismail’s cleft lips and cleft palate made feeding him difficult, and he was not getting the nutrients necessary for healthy babies.”
Upon seeing her son after surgery, his mother cried, quietly understanding that her child’s life will now be on a new path. The operation gave Ismail a new beginning, allowing him to eat properly and to lead a healthy life.
